Chicago South Side Birth Center Breaks Ground, Marking Milestone for Community-Led Maternal Healthcare

On April 7, the Chicago South Side Birth Center officially broke ground, marking a significant milestone for maternal health in Chicago and a growing national movement to invest in community-led care.

The birth center was founded by Jeanine Valrie Logan, a midwife and Chicago Beyond’s second Leader in Residence, who has long understood both what families on the South Side need and what has been missing from traditional systems of care.

The groundbreaking also coincides with Chicago Beyond’s 10-year anniversary, a milestone that reflects a decade of backing leaders closest to the issues, those with the proximity, insight, and lived experience to design solutions that last.
